Nancy Sullivan, ministers’ wives pioneer, dies

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (BP) -- Nancy Hinson Sullivan, wife of John Sullivan, retired executive director-treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention, died Wednesday (Aug. 12) at Memorial Hospital. The 83-year-old suffered a heart attack in June and a stroke a week prior to her death.

Hurricane Michael: Year later, God still at work

MEXICO BEACH, Fla. (BP) -- Riding out Hurricane Michael's 161-mph winds at home in Mexico Beach, Fla., Barbara and Bubba Harmon watched as the storm's nine-foot tidal wave rushed toward them, pieces of broken lives, debris and garbage in its wake. SBC leaders cast vision for 2020 SBC

ORLANDO, Fla. (BP) -- More than 220 Florida Baptist pastors and leaders were challenged by Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee President Ronnie Floyd to mobilize messengers "for the sake of the Gospel" to attend the SBC annual meeting, June 9-10, 2020, in Orlando. During the Aug. 21 meeting held at First Baptist Church in Orlando, Floyd asked for the pastors to "begin a journey of casting a vision" that will bring "thousands and thousands" to the annual meeting.

DALLAS (BP) -- J.D. Greear, pastor of The Summit Church in the Raleigh-Durham, N.C., area, was elected the 60th president of Southern Baptist Convention during the 2018 SBC annual meeting in Dallas. Greear will lead a diverse slate of officers including A.B. Vines, pastor of New Seasons Church in San Diego, first vice president; Felix Cabrera, pastor of Iglesia Bautista Central in Oklahoma City, second vice president; John Yeats, executive director of the Missouri Baptist Convention, recording secretary; and Don Currence, minister of children and administration at First Baptist Church in Ozark, Mo., registration secretary.
