Step out of comfort zones for foster care, Bevin says
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- Kentucky First Lady Glenna Bevin urged 300 attendees during a Woman's Auxiliary luncheon at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary to step out of their comfort zones and get involved with foster care and adoption. Glenna and her husband, Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin, have adopted four children from Ethiopia and have pledged to improve the state's foster care system.
‘Go find someone hurting,’ Tada tells SBTS audiences
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- "Go find someone hurting worse than you and help them," Joni Eareckson Tada said during a two-day visit to Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. Tada, a quadriplegic speaker and author, told her personal story and focused on practical ministry to the disabled by local churches in a talk to 350 Southern Seminary students and their families for a Student Life Conference on Feb. 10.
Moore: Christ crucified better than civil religion
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- God's call to repentance in 2 Chronicles 7:14 is a summons to follow Christ, not an affirmation of vague, patriotic moralism, ethicist Russell Moore said in a March 19 chapel message at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. "God and country is much, much easier than Christ and Him crucified," said Moore, president of Southern Baptists' Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission. "This text does not point us to a bloodless civil religion. This text points us to the cross."
