Collegiate Week: LifeWay event finds new ‘home’

DAVIS, Okla. (BP) -- Bill Noe kept using the word "home." Apparently, it was the best word to describe Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center, which hosted Collegiate Week, Aug. 5-9, an annual event sponsored by LifeWay Christian Resources. As LifeWay's national collegiate ministry specialist, Noe serves as Collegiate Week's program director. "As I started talking to Falls Creek leadership, it became increasingly apparent that this probably could work out, and it would be a great home," Noe said when asked about the process of moving Collegiate Week, which had a long history of meeting at Glorieta Conference Center in Glorieta, N.M. "Just every conversation, every visit, every step along the way made it more and more obvious that (Falls Creek) would be the perfect home for Collegiate Week."

Seniors say ‘yes’ to VBS

OKLAHOMA Okla. (BP) -- Demonstrating that no one is too old to learn, Portland Avenue Baptist Church hosted a senior adult version of Vacation Bible School (VBS), July 9-12. By midweek, the church had nearly 20 seniors saying, as the popular VBS song goes, "Y-E-S to VBS." Gina McKean, director of children's ministries at the church located in Oklahoma City, Okla., said a church member went to a senior adult VBS at nearby Cherokee Hills Baptist Church last summer and asked her if they could do one at Portland Avenue.

She found healing & now directs pregnancy center

OKLAHOMA CITY (BP) -- She left that meeting in 1993 discouraged. Carolyn Anson was told she was not ready to be a volunteer at the Crisis Pregnancy Center (now known as the Hope Pregnancy Center) because she needed healing from her past abortion experience. But, after reading an advertisement in the Baptist Messenger of Oklahoma, Anson would be on her way to not only find healing, but also help other post-abortive women. This eventually led to her new position as the director of Hope Pregnancy Center (HPC) North in Oklahoma City.

Pro-life roses at capitol: Okla. Baptists’ 25th year

OKLAHOMA CITY (BP) -- Oklahoma has been declared the "number one" state on Americans United for Life's "Life List" -- a recognition by the nation's oldest pro-life organization based on how well Oklahoma law protects life. The achievement can be attributed to the many years Oklahomans have encouraged state government leaders to support pro-life legislation, including Oklahoma Baptists' 25 years of involvement in Rose Day.
