Longtime faculty Melicks stay focused in retirement
MILL VALLEY, Calif. (BP) -- Class began promptly as Shera Melick, associate professor of educational leadership, asked her students to take their seats. She expressed her joy in teaching them, prayed over them, and then began the last in-classroom session she would conduct at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. Changes are in store at the seminary, with the relocation of its main campus from the San Francisco area to Southern California. Some are bittersweet, such as last year's decision by longtime faculty members Shera and Rick Melick to retire.
Prof: Christianity heads back to its roots
MILL VALLEY, Calif. (BP) -- Vibrant colors of flags representing several nations paraded down the chapel aisle before history professor Philip Jenkins from Baylor University described the consequences of the movement of Christianity toward the Global South from its predominant foundation in North America and Europe since 1900. "Christianity is a religion that was born in Africa and Asia and, in our lifetimes, has decided to go home," Jenkins said at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary's 10th annual Intersect conference.
