Women gather at SBC to celebrate theological scholarship

NASHVILLE (BP) – In a spirit of gratitude and enthusiasm for how the Lord is bringing women together through scholarship across Southern Baptist seminaries, more than 30 women met together the day before the 2021 SBC Annual Meeting. The June 14 meeting was the first of its kind tied to an SBC annual meeting.

Southeastern Women’s Breakfast highlights Great Commission stories

NASHVILLE (BP) – Celebrating Great Commission stories and the faithfulness of the Lord in the lives of women was the theme of this year’s sixth annual Southeastern Women’s Breakfast, hosted by Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) Wednesday (June 16). Approximately 150 women gathered to hear from Lynette Ezell, Annie Locke, Kandi Gallaty and Missie Branch for a time of encouragement.

Karen Swallow Prior to join SEBTS faculty

WAKE FOREST, N.C. (BP) -- Karen Swallow Prior will join the faculty of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) as full-time research professor of English and Christianity & Culture beginning fall semester of 2020. She will be the first research professor in the history of The College at Southeastern. "I am delighted to have Karen join our faculty," said SEBTS President Danny Akin. "She is a gifted teacher in the field of English and literature who loves Christ, the Gospel and the Great Commission. Our students will be blessed to sit under her instruction. She is a wonderful addition to the outstanding faculty of Southeastern."

TRUSTEES: SEBTS trustees & donors gather, celebrate 25th anniversary of college

WAKE FOREST, N.C. (BP) -- Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) donors and trustees gathered together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The College at Southeastern (The College) during their biannual meetings Oct. 13-15. "The days are evil. The need for soldiers of the cross is great. We are a school that absolutely is making an eternal difference," said President Danny Akin during a dinner Monday night for trustees and donors. Akin highlighted significant growth within The College and the continued need of financial support for the "For the Mission" campaign.

‘Mr. Eugene’ — ‘one of God’s great gifts’ to SEBTS

WAKE FOREST, N.C. (BP) -- Eugene Smith Sr., affectionately known as "Mr. Eugene" around Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, died Aug. 11 at the age of 92. He had been a beloved facilities employee for nearly 40 years. "Mr. Eugene, as we called him, was one of God's great gifts to Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary," SEBTS President Danny Akin said.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- This year's 9Marks panel discussions tackled the current state of the Southern Baptist Convention and whether or not the health of a church is enough to sustain itself in this cultural moment during two evenings of discussion in conjunction with the SBC's annual meeting in Birmingham, Ala. The Monday evening (June 10) discussion was led by Mark Dever, co-founder of 9Marks and senior pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C, and Jonathan Leeman, 9Marks editorial director. Conversation centered around the topic, "Are Healthy Churches Enough for Today's Problems?" Dever and Leeman's discussion was a live recording of their Pastors' Talk podcast, which they record weekly to discuss practical aspects of pastoral ministry and Christian life.
