Asbury revival: ‘A beautiful experience of seeking God’

10,000 baptisms: Pastor sets milestone

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (BP) -- Kentucky pastor Steve Ayers has reached a milestone that has Christians across the state taking notice: 10,000 baptisms since he arrived at Hillvue Heights Church. Since becoming pastor of the Bowling Green congregation in 1991, Ayers has seen the church grow from 30 people into a megachurch where 5,000 people regularly attend Sunday morning services. "The evangelistic success of Hillvue is nothing short of miraculous," Kentucky Baptist Convention Executive Director Paul Chitwood said. "We celebrate every soul saved and pray God gives a harvest of 10,000 more."

Pastor’s near-death experience intensifies Gospel focus

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (BP) -- After surviving a fiery explosion that nearly killed him, Kentucky megachurch pastor Steve Ayers said he's a changed man, having come out of the ordeal laser-focused on Jesus and telling others about the Gospel before it's too late. "I was committed to evangelism before the accident," said Ayers, senior pastor of the 16,000-member Hillvue Heights Church in Bowling Green, which routinely baptizes more than 500 new believers a year. "I'm completely committed to evangelism now because truly, at your last breath, nothing else matters."

Knocking on doors sparks attendance, yields baptisms

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- A Louisville pastor has busted the longstanding myth in the church world that door-to-door visitation is out of vogue and no longer effective. Mark Bishop has knocked on about 200 doors a week since he arrived six months ago at Highview Baptist Church – Valley Station Campus. Ky. convention to hotels: Fight human trafficking

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- The Kentucky Baptist Convention will not do business with hotels that fail to train employees to recognize and report human trafficking, KBC Executive Director Paul Chitwood announced Sept. 21. Chitwood set forth the convention's position in a letter to potential vendors and listed several resources for free training. Among the list is the Kentucky attorney general's office, which announced Sept. 20 a partnership that will seek to offer human trafficking training to Kentucky's commercial drivers and truck-stop employees. The Kentucky convention, the state's largest religious organization encompassing a church membership of 750,000, intends for its internal policy to encourage corporate partners to provide employees with human trafficking awareness education.
