Two young Christian women killed in Nigeria

JOS, Nigeria (BP) -- Muslim Fulani herdsmen killed two young Christian women in southern Kaduna state, Nigeria, Jan. 17, sources said. The herdsmen on motorbikes rode into Gora-Gan village in Zango Kataf County about 5 p.m., shooting villagers on sight, according to a local resident. Luka Biniyat, spokesman for the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), confirmed the killing of Briget Philip, 18, and Priscilla David, 19.

Crackdown on Christianity escalates in China

BEIJING (BP) -- As more government officials in China are empowered to close churches and a "social credit" system threatens to block Christians from schools, bank loans and jobs, authorities have taken harsh measures against more churches, sources said. In Beijing, Early Rain Covenant Church elder Qin Defu was sentenced to four years in prison Nov. 29, according to advocacy group China Aid Association (CAA). Qin was charged with illegal business operations as a result of the church's using 20,000 Christian books, according to CAA.

Extremist group executes non-ethnic Muslims in Kenya

NAIROBI (BP) -- Suspected members of Somali Islamic extremist group Al Shabaab intercepted a bus in northern Kenya Friday Dec. 6, separated out those who were not local ethnic Somali Muslims and executed them, sources said. The Medina Bus Co. vehicle in route from Nairobi to Mandera had 56 people aboard when it was intercepted at 5:30 p.m. between Kutulu and Wargadud in Wajir County, where the population is largely ethnic Somali Kenyans, sources said.

Herdsmen kill two in Christian village in northern Nigeria

JOS, Nigeria (BP) -- Muslim Fulani herdsmen in north-central Nigeria on early Thursday morning (Nov. 14) hacked an 87-year-old Christian to death by machete and killed another by gunshot, an area resident said. A group of herdsmen attacked predominantly Christian Agom village in southern Kaduna state's Sanga Country at 4:30 a.m., area resident Gabriel Yakubu told Morning Star News by text message. Monday Kura, 87, and Emmanuel Agom, 48, both members of the Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ (ERCC), were killed as they slept in their rooms, he said.

JUBA, South Sudan (BP) -- Security officials have arrested two Sudanese Christian leaders near Khartoum and are seeking to re-imprison two pastors who were freed in August, Morning Star News has reported. Growing tension against Christians cited in India

NEW DELHI (BP) -- Heightened hostilities against Christians in India that began late last year continued through the summer, with Hindu extremists threatening Christians and forcing them to "reconvert" to Hinduism, church leaders said.  In Rajasthan in the northwest, 10 Christian families in Nakhnool village, near Alwar, have fled after intolerant Hindus harassed and threatened to kill them, area church leaders said.

Pakistan’s Supreme Court to hear mother’s appeal

LAHORE, Pakistan (BP) -- Pakistan's Supreme Court Wednesday (July 22) agreed to review the case of a Christian mother sentenced to death on a blasphemy charge, temporarily suspending her execution. Aasiya Noreen, commonly known as Asia Bibi, is the first woman to be sentenced to death for blasphemy in Pakistan. The three-judge bench of the Supreme Court at the Lahore Registry admitted for hearing her petition challenging the sentence.
