SWBTS trustees receive reports of financial stability, enrollment growth

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) – Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary trustees heard reports of renewed financial stability and enrollment growth during their April 9-10 meeting held on the Fort Worth campus, which was marked by a spirit of unity, President David S. Dockery said.

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) – Christian higher education leader David S. Dockery was elected 10th president and Southern Baptist leader O.S. Hawkins was elected to the new role of chancellor during the spring meeting of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary board of trustees, April 19.

SWBTS ‘not in a crisis,’ but financial challenges must be addressed, Dockery tells trustees

FORT WORTH (BP) -- Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is “not in a crisis” but financial challenges “could quickly escalate to a crisis if we do not aggressively move to address them,” Interim President David S. Dockery told the seminary’s board of trustees today during its first regularly scheduled meeting since the resignation of former president Adam W. Greenway. 

SBTC presents $250,000 gift to SWBTS

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) – Nathan Lorick, executive director of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention (SBTC), presented a $250,000 gift Oct. 3 to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary interim leadership O.S. Hawkins and David S. Dockery to support the faculty and to help the school with its current financial challenges.

Hawkins, Dockery announced as joint interim leadership at SWBTS

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- Following a special-called meeting of the Board of Trustees of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Chairman Danny Roberts today announced that trustees have invited O.S. Hawkins and David S. Dockery to provide joint leadership to the seminary during the interim period. Dockery will serve as interim president, while Hawkins will serve as senior advisor and ambassador-at-large.

SWBTS releases list of 13 individuals connected to sexual abuse allegations

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) – The chairman of the Board of Trustees and president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary jointly published today an open letter to the seminary community that includes a list of 13 individuals who were previously students and/or staff of the institution and who appear on a larger list of persons arrested or credibly charged with sexual abuse or sexual assault maintained by the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention, which was previously unknown until its release last week following an independent investigation.

Hemphill rejoins SWBTS faculty to lead center bearing his name

Hemphill, seventh president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, has been appointed distinguished fellow of the Hemphill Center for Church Revitalization and senior professor of church revitalization in the Roy J. FORT WORTH, Texas (BP)—John William “Jack” MacGorman, long-time professor of New Testament at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and namesake for its MacGorman Chapel, died today at the age of 100, two days shy of his 101st birthday.
