FORT WORTH, Texas (BP)–David W. Clark has been named director of the North American Mission Board’s media and technology group (MTG).
The MTG will perform communications functions previously handled by the Southern Baptist Convention Radio and Television Commission when the latter ceases to exist June 19. The RTVC, Home Mission Board and Brotherhood Commission will officially be merged June 19 to form NAMB as part of the SBC restructuring, “Covenant for a New Century.”
Clark was introduced to RTVC trustees during a May 22 appreciation dinner for the agency’s employees in Fort Worth, Texas. Beginning June 1, he will serve as RTVC’s executive vice president until the NAMB merger occurs. He will report to NAMB’s as-yet-unnamed vice president for media and missions education.
During the final RTVC trustees meeting, Jack Johnson, president of the agency, announced he will become special assistant to the president of the NAMB. The nominee for NAMB president is Bob Reccord, pastor of First Baptist Church, Norfolk, Va.
While the majority of the NAMB staff will be located at what is now the HMB headquarters in Alpharetta, Ga., the majority of the MTG staff will be located at what is now the RTVC facility in Fort Worth.
Prior to joining NAMB, Clark was president of KMC Media in Dallas, a media strategy, production and placement company serving many of the nation’s leading nonprofit ministries. Before founding the media company in 1991, he served as dean of the college of communications at Regent University in Virginia.
Clark also is the current chairman of the board of National Religious Broadcasters, an organization of more than 900 Christian program producers and radio and television operators.
From 1982-87, Clark headed Victor King, a full-service in-house agency responsible for buying more than $20 million a year in time for “The 700 Club” and all other Christian Broadcasting Network programs in 200 domestic and 20 international markets. Prior to heading Victor King, he was director of research at CBN.
A member of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas, Clark is a native of Chicago and son of Assembly of God missionaries. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Evangel College, a master of divinity degree from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary (an American Baptist school) and a Ph.D. in communications research from the University of Iowa.
Prior to earning his doctorate Clark served as pastor of two Baptist churches in the Midwest.
