[1]SALT LAKE CITY (BP)–Southern Baptist International Mission Board appointee Mark Roberts, remained in Salt Lake City’s LDS Hospital the morning of June 10 after he and his wife, Jenny, were struck by automobile in downtown Salt Lake City June 9.
Roberts, who is awaiting a back brace for a crushed vertebrae, and IMB officials are hoping he can be released, wearing the brace or in a wheelchair, in time to participate in the missionary appointment service Wednesday night at the Salt Palace Convention Center.
Jenny Roberts was released from the hospital’s emergency room Tuesday night and will participate in the service.
The Robertses were struck by an automobile while crossing a street in front of the convention center, where they were attending the June 9-11 Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting. They were taken by ambulance to the downtown LDS Hospital.
The Robertses will be appointed to a four-year term as career associates in Asia. They live in Columbia, S.C., with their 1-year-old child, Robbie. They are members of Morningside Baptist Church, Brevard, N.C.
Jenny Roberts lived in several Asian countries as a teenager. Mark Roberts, a licensed certified public accountant, served in the Navy and toured Vietnam in the late 1960s.
Both hold master’s degrees in teaching English as a second language from Columbia International University, Columbia, S.C.
