ALEXANDRIA, La. (BP)–“There are ominous signs that the Earth’s weather patterns have begun to change dramatically and that these changes may portend a drastic decline in food production -– with serious political implications for just about every nation on Earth,” is how one article I read recently on global climate change begins.
Later the article asserts, “The evidence in support of these predictions [of catastrophic climate change] has now begun to accumulate so massively that meteorologists are hard-pressed to keep up.”
The earth’s climate, we’re told by the story, is undergoing such a dramatic shift that it poses an ominous threat to mankind’s existence.
You might easily conclude that the subject of the aforementioned article is global warming, but it’s not. The article in question appeared in Newsweek 32 years ago, April 28, 1975, and was titled “The Cooling World”.
Yes, you read it right. Three decades ago there were scientists that believed global cooling was unavoidable. Some even predicted a devastating ice age was imminent.
“The longer the planners delay [at implementing man-made solutions to combat global cooling], the more difficult will they find [it] to cope with climate change once the results become grim reality.”
Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
Today the issue that many scientists pontificate on is global warming. The alarm is being sounded around the world that if something is not done to combat rising temperatures — and done soon — mankind will soon be toast (pun intended).
While there are scientists of note that remain skeptical concerning the reality of global warming, they seem to be in the minority. However, among those who are convinced that temperatures are one the rise, there is not agreement as to the causes or solutions to the situation.
The powers-that-be in mainstream media are especially enamored by scientists who believe humans are the cause of the earth’s warm-up. And, it seems, the messengers with the most alarming messages garner the most media exposure.
There are scientists who see the warming trend as nothing more than a part of a cycle the earth has experienced for thousands of years. However, the media has pushed these voices to the back of the global-warming-debate-bus.
“Climate has always been changing,’ contends meteorologist Reid Bryson, who holds a Ph.D. in meteorology.
“All this argument is the temperature going up on not, it’s absurd,” Bryson told “Wisconsin Energy Cooperative News.”
Bryson added, “Of course it’s going up. It has gone up since the early 1800s, before the Industrial Revolution, because we are coming out of the Little Ice Age, not because we’re putting more carbon dioxide into the air.”
Timothy Ball, the chairman of the Natural Resources Stewardship Project and a former climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg, agrees.
“Believe or not, Global Warming is not due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2),” he wrote in an article earlier this year. “This [assertion that global warming is caused by humans] is in fact is the greatest deception in the history of science. We are wasting time, energy and trillions of dollars while creating unnecessary fear and consternation over an issue with no scientific justification.”
While there may be disagreement as to the causes and effects of global warming, one thing is for certain — those with radical social agendas are attempting to use the issue to their advantage.
The Optimum Population Trust, an environmentalist think-tank in Britain, believes the key to curbing global warming is for families to have fewer children. The optimum number is said to be two per couple.
Meanwhile, Paul Watson, founder and president of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society based in Friday Bay, Wash., believes that humans are “acting like a virus” and killing “our host the planet Earth.”
Watson once referred to mankind as the “AIDS of the Earth.” He wants to reduce the total population of the earth to approximately 1 billion. The current population is 6.5 billion and growing.
A report last year by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations found that livestock are a major contributor to greenhouse gases. The problem? Cow belches (yes, cow belches) and deforestation to expand pasture.
“Livestock are one of the most significant contributors to today’s most serious environmental problems,” senior UN Food and Agriculture Organization official Henning Steinfeld said, according to the UN News Service. “Urgent action is required to remedy the situation.”
Let me assure you that the solutions to global warming by those with radical social agendas, like those mentioned above, include abortion, active euthanasia (how else are you going to reduce the world population by 84 percent?) and the banning of meat consumption.
Continue to study and debate global warming — absolutely, but we need to recall that not too long ago were told we would soon be freezing to death. Aren’t you glad you didn’t invest too heavily in thermal underwear back in the ’70s?
