Abortion rights attorney speech canceled due to winter weather

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (BP)–A speech by the prevailing attorney in the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court case that legalized abortion scheduled Jan. 27 at Campbell University was canceled due to inclement weather, according to Jim Person, the university’s director of public information.

Well-known attorney and lecturer Sarah Weddington had been scheduled to speak at the university’s law school. Her invitation from the school’s Distinguished Speakers Society sparked a protest among various undergraduate students over the propriety of an abortion rights defender speaking at a Baptist school.

Person said no decision has been made on whether Weddington’s speech will be rescheduled at the Buies Creek, N.C., university.
