Addition of George Liele Day highlights 2021 SBC calendar

NASHVILLE (BP) – Though many events were canceled or postponed in 2020, Southern Baptists were still able to recognize important ministry emphases through the SBC Calendar. And with 2020 drawing to an end, the 2021 SBC calendar, released earlier this month, promises more reasons to rejoice and reflect.

“The calendar offers our churches the opportunity to be unified on important days throughout the year,” said Jonathan Howe, vice president for communications for the SBC Executive Committee. “It allows us to align our efforts on issues that are important to our churches and our convention such as sanctity of life, global hunger or disaster relief. It also provides an opportunity for churches to educate their members on different aspects of the SBC and its missions and ministries, as well as to celebrate the Cooperative Program, which fuels our missions and ministries around the world.”

New for 2021 is the George Liele Church Planting, Evangelism and Missions Day [2], which was approved by the SBC Executive Committee in 2020 after a recommendation by messengers to the 2019 SBC Annual Meeting. The late African American missionary will be honored the first Sunday in February.
