DENVER (BP)–Allen Spencer has been named director of church communications for the Colorado Baptist General Convention, David T. Bunch, executive director of the convention, has announced.

Spencer, 30, will be responsible for the convention’s electronic media as well as editing the state Baptist newspaper, the Rocky Mountain Baptist.

Spencer comes to the convention from Basin Electric Power Cooperative, a company that supplies power to eight states. Based in North Dakota for seven years, he served as the company’s communications assistant and wrote for several publications.

Spencer’s first experiences in North Dakota came during his college years when he served on the mission field. “God gave me a love for the people and culture there and introduced me to a ministry and a way of `doing church’ that I hadn’t known in Mississippi,” said Spencer, a native of Senatobia, Miss.

After a second summer in North Dakota, he said he was sure of God’s call into ministry and into the West.

After Spencer and his wife, Stefanie, were married in 1992, they moved to Bismark, N.D., where he served in bivocational music and youth ministry. Spencer also has been a Mission Service Corps volunteer serving full-time in ministry.

Stefanie Spencer, originally from Biloxi, Miss., currently works as an administrative assistant in the church growth department at Riverside Baptist Church, Denver.
