Are steroids fueling the home run era?

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Smaller ballparks. Watered-down pitching caused by too much expansion. Better physical training.

All are reasons given for the recent offensive explosion in baseball. BPSports columnist Tim Ellsworth, however, says it doesn’t take a genius to look at the numbers posted by players over the past five or six years and realize something is out of kilter.

“I’m not naïve enough to think those are the only reasons baseballs sail out of the park faster than a Roger Clemens heater,” Ellsworth writes. “Baseball has a steroid problem, and it’s time the league stepped in and fixed it.”
