Athletics, morals & parenting clash in $40M civil lawsuit

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP)–Ashley Michael, in her BPSports column, turns her attention to a $40 million civil lawsuit filed against the University of Alabama at Birmingham by the parents of a former student, alleging that 28 athletes had sex with their daughter, who was 15 years old at the time, over a period of months. The suit also alleges that school officials, including football coach Watson Brown, were aware of what was going on and did not take proper action.

“Keep in mind, this 15-year-old girl was no normal student. She was a child prodigy who graduated high school at age 14 and moved away from home and into college dormitories before she even had her driver’s license,” Michael writes.
