[1]ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP)–The North American Mission Board’s new executive vice president is Randy Singer, an attorney from Chesapeake, Va.
Elected by NAMB trustees Nov. 5, Singer will free the agency’s new president, Bob Reccord, from details of day-to-day operations which he says would keep him from addressing the strategic issues of the agency.
Singer told trustees, “The president of the North American Mission Board needs to be free from the captivity of the minutia which keeps him from dreaming the dream of reaching North America for Christ. I can help do that.”
In recommending Singer, Reccord told trustees, “he has the competency, chemistry, leadership skills, and motivation I’ve been looking for. And, he understands the challenges we face in reaching the United States and Canada for Christ.”
“Randy is one of the most respected attorneys on the east coast and an accomplished business consultant,” Reccord said. “I commend to you his resume and the position description.”
In an impassioned address to the board, Singer said his resume was “beside the point … I have but one qualification. I’m a sinner saved by grace. … I believe there’s a real heaven and a real hell and am motivated by the footsteps of people going to hell every day.”
“I love the Southern Baptist Convention and SBC churches. I was not raised Southern Baptist so have chosen to be Southern Baptist. God is doing something special through the North American Mission Board and my wife, and I believe he is calling us to be a part of it,” Singer said.
Singer is a partner in the Norfolk, Va. law firm of Willcox & Savage, where he leads the litigation group and assists in overseeing the firm’s strategic planning, budgeting and operational issues. He has worked closely with clients on strategic planning issues as well as with churches facing legal issues. Singer also serves as legal counsel for a number of communication entities including three television stations, a newspaper and a national cable channel.
A graduate of Marshall-Wythe School of Law at William and Mary University in Virginia, Singer also serves as an adjunct professor at Regent University Law School. Prior to attending law school, he taught high school history and Bible in two Christian schools, one in his native New York and one in Portsmouth, Va.
Singer, his wife, Rhonda, and their two children are members of First Baptist Church, Norfolk, where Reccord served as pastor prior to election last summer as NAMB president. Reccord said Singer will assume his new responsibilities after the first of the year.
