Baptist Press lets readers hear from SBC entity and seminary leaders

[1]

NASHVILLE (BP) – The Cooperative Program is one of the key ways Southern Baptists work together. Beginning today, Baptist Press is letting readers hear from key leaders across the Southern Baptist Convention on the impact they are making through the Cooperative Program.

“Southern Baptists have proven to be a faithful and generous people, and we are glad to tell the stories of how the Cooperative Program fuels the global advance of God’s kingdom through Southern Baptist missions and ministry,” said Jonathan Howe, vice president of communications for the SBC Executive Committee.

The columns will be shared as First-Person articles, and they will be published on Wednesdays by Baptist Press. The series begins today (Jan. 5) with a column [2] from Gateway Seminary President Jeff Iorg.

“We greatly respect those leading our entities and seminaries. We want to give them the opportunity to share how they see the Cooperative Program is making an impact,” added Brandon Porter, SBC EC associate vice president for convention news.

Howe believes the columns can serve Southern Baptists as constant reminders of how their CP gifts are being invested.

“The SBC is blessed with entity leaders who are not just products of the Cooperative Program, but some of its greatest cheerleaders as well. We all know and understand the value of the CP to our cooperative mission, but it’s also good for us to be reminded about that from time to time by those who are leading our CP-supported entities,” Howe said.

The columns will have a focus on the Cooperative Program, but the leaders have also been given the latitude to address important issues as well.

“Southern Baptists want to hear the thoughts and opinions of those who are leading their entities. We want to create that space,” said Porter.
