Baptist Press to debut new features, new website

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Several new Baptist Press features and an updated website format will debut Friday, Jan. 19, as BP completes phase two of a multi-stage redesign.

The website address for Baptist Press, the official news service of the Southern Baptist Convention, is www.bpnews.net.

The new Baptist Press features will include a daily column to be penned by Southern Baptist Convention entity leaders; writers with expertise in fields ranging from church health to creation and evolution; and, each Friday, Kelly Boggs, pastor of Valley Baptist Church, McMinnville, Ore.

Another new feature, “Faith and Family Facts,” edited by Will Hall of Baptist Press, will appear weekly.

“Faith and Family Facts will summarize key topical issues to inform our readers about insights that should be helpful for daily living,” said Hall, vice president for news services with the SBC Executive Committee. While offered as a feature to state Baptist papers and secular newspapers, Faith and Family Facts also can be downloaded for such local church uses as newsletters, Sunday bulletins and websites.

A “Good News” feature on how to receive Christ as Lord and Savior also is being added.

In the redesign, improvements to Baptist Press’ website include:

— multiple photos within stories, and the ability to download photos from the stories.

— an advanced search function, print-friendly print option and e-mailing to a friend.

— upgraded photo library, with faster download time on thumbnails and access to high resolution images by right-clicking on thumbnails.

— corrections linked to the original story.

Baptist Press also offers a daily sports news and information service at www.bpsports.net, including reporting by BP writer Ashley Michael and columns by Victor Lee and Ray Carroll.
