Baptists perish in dive trip tragedy

RICHMOND, Va. (BP)–Two members of a Southern Baptist church in Richmond, Va., were among 17 divers who perished Oct. 8 in Hurricane Iris near Belize City.

Charlie and Cindy Pike along with other members of the Richmond Dive Club after the 120-foot yacht they were on capsized, according to the Richmond Times Dispatch.

The Pikes were parents of two sons, Charlie III and Joshua, and a grown daughter, Shenna Price.

They also opened their Chesterfield County home to foster children and were active members of Bon Air Baptist Church.

Charlie Pike, 51, was a principal at Timmons, a Richmond-based engineering, planning and surveying company. Cindy Pike, 44, worked for Chesterfield Towne Center, the newspaper reported.

“Charlie was generally known as one of Timmons’ most brilliant engineering minds in development of special projects, and his tutelage to the younger engineers will be an enduring legacy of his time with the firm,” company officials said in a news release.
