Baylor guard gears up for mission trip

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (BP)—With Baylor University’s trip to the Women’s Final Four ending in a 70-50 semifinals loss to top-rated Connecticut on Sunday night, junior point guard Melissa Jones is preparing for another challenge on the horizon.

Jones will join Baylor athletic chaplain Wes Yeary and other Baylor athletes for a sports ministry trip to Kenya, May 14-30.

For the second year in a row, the players will assist in team sports clinics, help build orphanages and provide food to children at local feeding stations.

“Basketball is only so much of your life,” Jones said. “This is going to be a great trip because we are going to help somebody every day.

“I’m sorry this great season had to end, but this is going to be so much fun on the trip,” Jones said. “It’s really what I want to be about — helping others in God’s name.”
