MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (BP)–Keith Beene, administrative coordinator of the Baptist Communicators Association since 1994, died during the night, according to morning notice Nov. 16 from the BCA’s president, David Winfrey.

Beene, 40, also was a freelance writer and stay-at-home father in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The Baptist Communicators Association is a 300-member association of writers, photographers, electronic media workers and public relations and marketing specialists employed by Baptist entities, churches and other organizations.

“Keith Beene had a servant spirit, a heart for people and a willingness to do whatever it took to get the job done,” the BCA’s president-elect, Barbara Denman, told Baptist Press.

“As the administrative coordinator for BCA, he was the glue that held the organization together, dedicating countless hours to ensure that minor and major details were handled correctly,” said Denman, director of communications for the Florida Baptist Convention.

“The organization was never able to pay him what he was worth. He will be dearly missed by the nearly 300 members for his fun-loving spirit and how he enhanced our professional development. He loved his family, he the loved the Lord and he loved Baptist communicators,” Denman said.

Winfrey, former news director at the Kentucky Baptist Convention’s Western Recorder newspaper, told Baptist Press, “Each year, new officers didn’t have to ‘re-invent the wheel’ because Keith provided both resources and institutional knowledge about BCA. He helped the group operate at its peak capacity. Keith is well-loved by all who worked alongside him and he will be sorely missed.”

Beene is survived by his wife Ellen, an employee at LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention, and a son, Erik, 9, and daughter, Miranda, 5.

Further details were not available by Baptist Press’ deadline on Nov. 16.
