Becky Yates tapped by WMU to lead New Hope Publishers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP)–Becky Yates joined the staff of Woman’s Missionary Union June 4 as publisher and director of New Hope Publishers, the trade publishing division of the Southern Baptist missions organization.

Yates moved to New Hope from Broadman & Holman Publishers in Nashville, Tenn., where she was vice president of supply chain and asset management.

Earlier at LifeWay, a series of rapid promotions had brought her to the position of vice president over the church supplies and gifts division, which experienced an 80 percent sales increase under her direction. Products contributing to this increase included a perpetual calendar from Henry Blackaby and gift products such as devotional journals from Beth Moore.

In addition to her proficiency in piloting, acquisitioning and marketing new products, Yates brings significant managerial experience to New Hope. In her supply chain and asset management leadership, she implemented production work flows and refined development processes that led to significant cost savings.

Yates began her trade publishing career more than 10 years ago as a church supplies specialist.

Yates embraces the challenge of taking the helm of a smaller publisher. “New Hope has the opportunity to establish itself as a significant source in our industry for books that will help individuals find their place of mission in kingdom work,” she said. “We can develop materials that motivate, inspire, teach and guide people to fulfill the opportunities for growth and service that God has provided. New Hope Publishers wants every product to point people to the source of hope for every situation they face.”

New Hope is the general trade imprint for WMU, the 113-year-old auxiliary to the Southern Baptist Convention. In 1997, WMU launched New Hope Publishers as a separate publishing division to take WMU’s evangelistic vision beyond the Southern Baptist audience. New Hope sales are rising, with year-to-date revenues reflecting a 56 percent increase over the last fiscal year. New Hope’s vision is to equip women and families to grow in Christ and share his hope.
