NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–It was just a cross of colored beads hanging on a piece of leather thread. Nothing flashy. It didn’t shine. It didn’t sparkle. It was something American kids would step on without a second glance on their way to play video games. It was just a few beads on a string, but to the poverty-stricken kids in Portugal, it was something special.
Just ask any of the 12 students from Belmont University who spent May 13-24 on a mission trip to Portugal. The group was made up primarily of basketball players — five from the men’s team and five from the women’s.
