B&H Academic to point toward Great Commission, director says

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Publishers in the United States release more than 195,000 new titles annually, and LifeWay Christian Resource’s Ray Clendenen wants to make sure at least some of those titles contribute to rigorous academic discussions.

Clendenen is the director of LifeWay’s newly formed B&H Academic, an initiative committed to providing resources specifically for undergraduate and graduate theological education.

“We can tie the purpose of B&H Academic very clearly to the Great Commission,” Clendenen said in an interview for Inside LifeWay, the podcast produced by LifeWay’s communications department.

Noting that every Christian “needs to have some relationship to the Great Commission,” Clendenen said, “Christ gave us the commission to make disciples. I believe if we are going to do that until Jesus comes we need educational resources. And I believe B&H Academic is an important part of providing resources to both undergraduate and graduate studies to help those institutions train church leadership.”

In determining which books and authors will fall under the B&H Academic umbrella, Clendenen said one major aspect of that process will involve discussions with professionals in the academic arena in order to determine their future needs and current concerns about the academic texts available to them.

“We’ll have our eye on the academic calendars as we try to bring these books out,” he added, “so that they will be ready for the semesters and terms as they start.”

B&H Academic has published six titles to date. Clendenen said upcoming B&H Academic releases will include a book dealing with believer’s baptism and a series covering Christian ethics.
