B&H releases 11 books in June, 3 from former SBC presidents

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Broadman & Holman Publishers released 11 books in June, and three were from two former Southern Baptist Convention presidents. B&H is the trade publishing division of LifeWay Christian Resources of the SBC.

General nonfiction:

— Tom Elliff, pastor of First Southern Baptist Church, Del City, Okla., and former SBC president, released two books in June. One, “Unbreakable: The Seven Pillars of a Kingdom Family,” explains seven pillars as seven critical commitments necessary for building strong families — families that are engaged in fulfilling Christ’s commission. The other, “In Their Own Words,” co-written with Robert Gee Witty, founder of Luther Rice Seminary, provides more than 50 personal testimonies from well-known Christians such as Charles Colson, James and Shirley Dobson, Manuel Noriega, James T. Draper Jr. and Edwin Young.

— “Crown Him King” by James Merritt, pastor of Fellowship of Joy Church, Snellville, Ga., and former SBC president, shows Christians how to make Christ the center of their lives and begin arranging their lives in ways pleasing to Him.

— “Whatever It Takes: The Amazing Adventures of God’s Work Around the World” by W.H. “Dub” Jackson explains the importance of “Partnership Missions” and international evangelistic outreach.

— “The Sacred Trust” by brothers Emir and Ergun Caner gives a five-page biography of each of the 52 Southern Baptist Convention presidents since 1845, the year the SBC began electing presidents.

— “Capturing the Pagan Mind: Paul’s Blueprint for Thinking and Living in the New Global Culture” by Peter R. Jones, scholar in residence at Westminster Theological Seminary, California, compares present-day culture to the Roman Empire. Jones outlines the way Christians should live today, based on the way the Apostle Paul lived his faith.

— “God on Sex” by Daniel Akin, author and marriage seminar leader, compares misconceptions about sex with God’s intentions for it within a marriage union.

— “Planting New Churches” by Ed Stetzer, discovery and development manager for the North American Mission Board in Atlanta, writes the “single most effective evangelistic methodology under heaven is planting new churches.”

— “Preaching with Bold Assurance” by Hershael York and Bert Decker, co-authors of “Speaking with Bold Assurance,” takes the bold assurance concept to the pulpit, outlining three elements of effective preaching: understanding the text, building the sermon and engaging the audience.

— “Social Skills Survival Guide” by etiquette expert June Hines Moore should help young adults learn the rules of good manners and give them confidence about who they are in Christ. Topics covered include: business lunch etiquette; proper clothes for job interviews; dating; appropriate business correspondence and many others.

— “The Illustrated Bible Guide to Biblical History” by Bible scholar Kendell Easley is a reference book with photos, maps and timelines for advanced and novice Bible students alike.
