This week’s Bible study is adapted from The Gospel Project curriculum.

Bible Passage: Jeremiah 29–30

Discussion Questions:

Food for Thought:

The history of Israel, in both the Northern and Southern kingdoms, contains many ups and downs. God would do wonders in the sight of His people. They would love God and worship Him. But soon they would forget.

[2]

God sent godly leaders – judges, kings, and prophets – to woo them back. As the people continued to stray, God eventually allowed their enemies to take them into exile and captivity, because He is a holy and just God. But in His love and faithfulness, He continued to encourage the Israelites through prophets like Jeremiah. God was still with them and freedom was coming.

In Jeremiah 30, we get a glimpse of God’s plan to pursue His children. He saw every single one of His people in exile and was keenly attuned to their pain, their prayers, their obedience, and their disobedience. His patience was long, His discipline was swift when it came, and His mercy was redeeming. Those who were exiled were always His, even if they felt they had slipped out of His grip. The Lord told the exiles through Jeremiah that they would yet be His people and He would be their God.

Jeremiah reminded God’s people of His promise that one day He would restore them from their captivity. All people are captives in an even greater way. Sin has affected all of creation and nothing is as it should be.

In His first coming, Jesus provided salvation for all who trust in Him. Jesus will return one day to make all things right. We believers must live each day telling others of His coming kingdom that they too might experience healing.

The Gospel Project

The Gospel Project is a chronological, Christ-centered study for kids, students and adults. The Bible is not a collection of stories. It is one story of God’s plan to rescue His people from sin and death. It is the story of redemption, the gospel message of Jesus Christ.
