Bible Passage: Psalm 100:1-5
Discussion Questions: As you get ready for Thanksgiving, what are you most looking forward to? What is the relationship between praising God and serving Him? What’s the difference between being thankful for things and being thankful for God Himself?
Food for Thought:
Crisp weather. A football-filled Saturday. Turkey and dressing. Parades. Thanksgiving is here and there is no shortage of ways to celebrate. In the midst of this time of counting blessings and enjoying time with loved ones, be sure to carve out some moments to spend one-on-one with God, acknowledging who He is and all He has done. Don’t miss this chance to draw near to God with a thankful heart. Consider how your life — your activities, your speech, your involvement at church, how you prioritize your time — speaks of God’s goodness.
[2]President John F. Kennedy had this to say about expressing appreciation: “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them.” How can we express our deep appreciation to the One who has done so much for us? How do we offer heartfelt worship to God on a continual basis?
Psalm 100 offers a pattern for the expression of thanksgiving by addressing the who, what, when, where, why and how of giving gratitude to God. Beyond just our words, our attitude and our actions testify to God’s gracious work in our lives. This week we’ll explore the psalmist’s seven imperatives given in these verses and how we can put them into practice in our daily lives.
Thanksgiving only comes once a year, but God’s goodness is worthy of our ongoing praise and gratitude all year long.
