BIBLE STUDY: Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP) — This weekly Bible study appears in Baptist Press in a partnership with LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention. Through its Leadership and Adult Publishing team, LifeWay publishes Sunday School curriculum and additional resources for all age groups.

This week’s Bible study is adapted from the YOU! curriculum.

Bible Passages: Luke 24:31-32,44-47,48-53

Discussion Question: What are you doing to help take Christ to those who have never heard His name?

Food for Thought:

We are commanded in Matthew 28 to take the Gospel of Christ into all lands. More commonly referred to as the Great Commission, it’s the responsibility of Christians to make disciples among all people. In crisis situations, for example, among those who are doing great work in Christ’s name are IMB missionaries, who often utilize Southern Baptists’ gifts to the World Hunger Fund in emergencies; Southern Baptist Disaster Relief; and Baptist Global Response. When calamity strikes, it’s their mission to provide both spiritual and physical aid to hurting people everywhere.

Emergency relief, for example, often is provided to victims of disaster, war, disease and famine. To impoverished villages, they provide hope through work programs and community development. In Christ’s name, they provide medical treatment and supplies to mission hospitals.

Their ministry is all about Jesus. When recipients of their good work ask, “Why did you come?” they typically answer, “We have come to help you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

While you may not have the means to travel abroad to deliver aid or medicine, you can reach out in your own community in Christ’s name to share His good news whether it’s through a food bank, homeless shelter or community action group. There’s always a way to take Jesus to those who do not know Him or have never heard His Name.
