Bibles, other resources packed for unit’s 900 foot soldiers

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (BP)–Hundreds of Bibles, tracts, devotionals and religious materials are locked and loaded for delivery to Southwest Asia.

Joining other military supplies earmarked for the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines assigned to the 1st Marine Division, the shipment was coordinated by Navy Chaplain Lieutenant Commander Travis Moger, a Florida native who is providing spiritual support to the 900 foot soldiers who make up the unit.

Moger said he was told to pack whatever he desired. So in went a wide assortment of ministry materials, including about 700 packets supplied by a group called Ministry to the Military.

Moger plans to carry supplies to combat soldiers using the Humvee he’s been assigned. If need be, however, he knows certain situations may call for him to travel light.

In that case, the portable digital hymn player he threw in last minute might end up occupying the back end of the Humvee for a while, Moger said.

“As a chaplain you can’t get any closer to the front line,” he Moger, more seriously. “I have a real peace about this. The safest place is in the center of God’s will, not my own.”
