NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Easier access to sports and up-to-the-minute scores are just two of the newest features on the redesigned BP Sports website, scheduled to debut on Monday, Oct. 23.
The newly designed format was created in response to suggestions from sports information directors and coaches at Baptist colleges and universities nationwide, according to Will Hall, vice president for news services of the Southern Baptist Convention.
“We’ve received positive response about the creation of the BP Sports website,” Hall said. “People enjoy all the information and news from our Baptist schools. Now, the new design will enhance what we are offering in the way of sports coverage.”
Since its Sept. 5 debut, BP Sports has registered more than 90,000 hits on the Internet site.
BP Sports has also sponsored game-day road trips to Baptist college campuses, distributing free BP Sports T-shirts, water bottles and hats. Previous road trips have included stops at Carson-Newman, Belmont University and Campbellsville University. Upcoming BP road trips include visits to East Texas Baptist University, Union University and Samford University.
“The road trips give our staff a chance to get on campus and meet students and sports fans and let them know about BP Sports,” Hall said.
On Nov. 4, BP Sports will sponsor a tailgate party prior to the Charleston Southern-Samford homecoming game in Birmingham. Hall invited sports fans to visit the party, meet the BP Sports staff and get free hot dogs and BP Sports merchandise.
The new design features:
— A live sports ticker that operates around the clock. The ticker will include scores from secular colleges and professional sports.
— Links to all Baptist colleges and universities. The links page will allow easier access to websites maintained by sports programs at all 56 Baptist colleges and universities.
— State-of-the-art search functions. All BP Sports stories will be accessible through an archive system. The search function will allow users to search by key word, school, sport or author.
— Easier access to sports scores. Each sport will be categorized with a link to separate pages. The pages will provide not only headlines, but also actual scores.
— Daily opinion poll. The opinion poll will deal with sports issues in the news, whether it’s who will win the World Series or who’s got the best chance of winning college football’s top BCS rating.
