BULLETIN: Pro-Southern Baptist nominee wins Missouri convention presidency

OSAGE BEACH, Mo. (BP)–Bob Collins, the nominee of a Project 1000 initiative to maintain Missouri Baptists’ ties to the Southern Baptist Convention, won the presidency of the state convention in a 1,984-1,253 vote Oct. 31.

Collins defeated Harlan Spurgeon, a former official with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and, earlier, the SBC Foreign Mission Board. Spurgeon was the nominee of the anti-SBC Mainstream Missouri Baptists organization.

Collins is the longtime pastor of Plaza Heights Baptist Church, Blue Springs, and current convention first vice president.

A full story on the Missouri convention, being held at Osage Beach, will appear in Baptist Press Wednesday, Nov. 1.
