HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (BP) – Greg Davidson, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Vacaville, Calif., will be nominated for president of the 2022 SBC Pastors’ Conference. Bruce Chesser, pastor of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, Tenn., announced his intention to make the nomination in an email to Baptist Press.
The nomination, made Thursday (May 13), will take place Monday, June 14 as part of the pastors’ track during the Send Conference in Nashville that precedes the SBC Annual Meeting at the Music City Center.
In 45 years of ministry, Davidson has pastored in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia and California. He has served in several roles in the California Southern Baptist Convention.
Davidson is the state coordinator for the Conservative Baptist Network and moderator of the Redwood Empire Baptist Association.
Nationally, Davidson’s involvement has included service on the SBC Committee on Committees and as a lead teacher of the FAITH Evangelism initiative for Lifeway from 2003-09. Davidson was nominated at the 2016 SBC Annual Meeting in St. Louis for vice president of the 2017 Pastors’ Conference in Phoenix, but lost.
“Greg Davidson is one of the most consistent and committed pastors that I have ever known,” said Chesser, current president of the Tennessee Baptist Convention. “I have known him since 1975 when we were students together at what was then Mobile College (University of Mobile today).”
The 2022 Pastors’ Conference will take place prior to the 2022 SBC Annual Meeting in Anaheim, Calif.
Chesser noted Davidson’s support of local missions in providing 20 percent of Reba Baptist Association’s budget and Trinity’s “tremendous growth” during Davidson’s tenure as pastor.
According to ACP reports, Trinity has grown from 384 members in 2014 when Davidson arrived to 637 in 2019, the last year a figure was given. In 2019 the church gave $137,723 – 13.5 percent of its total budget – through the Cooperative Program to support Southern Baptist ministries and missions. In 2020 the church gave $129,505 through CP, or 14 percent of its total budget.
“Greg is an expository preacher who loves God’s Word,” Chesser said. “He will provide outstanding leadership to develop a Pastors’ Conference for 2022 in Anaheim, Calif., that will both inspire and encourage every Southern Baptist pastor, pastor’s wife and staff member. He is a pastor, a preacher of God’s truth and a soul winner.”
Davidson is a graduate of the University of Mobile and Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife Malone have an 18-year-old son.
