Children’s love for missions is activity book’s focus

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP)–How can you teach a child the importance of missions in just five minutes?

Mitzi Gibbs Eaker provides an answer to the question in “Missions Moments,” a new activity book and guide for Christian parents and church leaders who want to help children build their faith through missions.

Missions Moments includes 52 weeks of missions activities, a five-minute children’s sermon and a 15-minute missions lesson in each chapter. The flexible format makes the book a unique resource for family devotions or for children’s worship and education in churches.

With the use of Scripture, application activities and missions challenges, Ben Hale, missions minister at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala., said, “Missions Moments is an easy-to-use resource that will help pass on a love for missions to the next generation.”

Eaker serves as the children’s ministry consultant for Woman’s Missionary Union and has been involved in children’s ministry and missions for more than 15 years. After answering the call into fulltime Christian ministry, Eaker earned a degree in social work from Jacksonville (Ala.) State University and a master of arts in Christian education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

Eaker is also a popular speaker at women’s events and conferences. She and her husband, Shane, live in Birmingham, Ala., and are members of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.
