Commission, committee nominees announced

SALT LAKE CITY (BP)–Nominees to serve on the Southern Baptist Convention Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission and Committee on Order of Business have been selected by the 1998 Committee on Nominations.
They will serve if elected by the messengers to the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention June 9-11at the Salt Lake City Salt Palace Convention Center.
ETHICS AND RELIGIOUS LIBERTY COMMISSION (35 members): 9 nominations considered; 3 new members; 6 renominations.
Nominated for term to expire in 2002 are Eric Pelletier, layperson and member of Capitol Hill Baptist Church, Washington, replacing Keri Harrison, Washington, who declined to serve second term; T. David Willets, senior pastor of Parkview Baptist Church, Tulsa, Okla., replacing Forrest A. Claunch, Midwest City, Okla., who declined to serve second term.
Nominated for a term to expire in 2000 is Abbott J. “Jay” McCollum, pastor of First Baptist Church, Gallup, N.M., replacing S. King Sanders, Santa Fe, N.M., who resigned.
Nominated for second term are Duane John Faulkenberry, Herrin, Ill.; Donald L. Lacy, Valley Center, Kan.; Claude M. Witt, Louisville, Ky.; Paul D. Walley, Richton, Miss.; Florence H. Hui, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Ronald W. Lee, Virginia Beach, Va.
COMMITTEE ON ORDER OF BUSINESS (6 members): 3 nominations considered; 2 new members; 1 nomination for chairman.
Nominees with term to expire in 2001, replacing members ineligible for re-election are Jerry A. Johnson, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Highlands Ranch, Colo., replacing Rick E. Ferguson, Denver; Mike Hand, administrative assistant to the pastor and member of First Southern Baptist Church, Del City, Okla., replacing James W. “Jim” Richards, Bentonville, Ark.
Ken Whitten, Tampa, Fla., was nominated as chairman.
