Country music’s Mark Wills to sing at SBC in St. Louis


ST. LOUIS (BP)–Country music artist Mark Wills will join with several church choirs in providing special music during the Southern Baptist Convention, June 11-12 in St. Louis.

Named the Academy of Country Music’s top new male vocalist in 1999, Wills is a member of the Atlanta-area First Baptist Church, Woodstock, Ga.

The Martins, an acclaimed Southern Gospel trio of siblings who have performed together more than 10 years, also will be featured during the SBC annual meeting.

Wills will sing at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, with the choir from his home church and at 6:30 p.m. with the choir from another Atlanta-area church, First Baptist, Snellville. At 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, he will join with several choirs in a musical segment.

The Martins will sing at 10:55 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Wills has had a million-selling platinum album, “Wish You Were Here” in 1998 and two gold half-million-selling albums, his self-titled “Mark Wills” debut album in 1996 and “Permanently” in 1999. His current national tour, “Mark Wills 2000 Living Every Minute,” is sponsored by IBC Root Beer, a brand of Dr. Pepper/Seven Up, Inc.

The Martins have won six Dove awards from the Gospel Music Association and have recorded eight albums, most recently “Glorify Edify Testify.”
