NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Gospel entertainers and Dove Award winners Clay Crosse and Jaci Velasquez will combine their musical talents during a national tour to promote the Southern Baptist teen sexual abstinence campaign, True Love Waits, in the fall of this year and next spring.
Velasquez, winner of the 1997 Dove Award for new artist of the year, and Crosse, winner of the same award in 1995, will take their “Stained Glass Tour” to 38 states and 80 locations.
“Both artists have strong testimonies related to sexual purity and are great models for today’s teenagers,” said Glen Whatley, a spokesperson for the True Love Waits campaign and coordinator of the musical tour for the Southern Baptist Sunday School Board.
Whatley said new songs performed by the artists — Crosse’s “Choices” and Velasquez’ “The Promise” — spurred the BSSB to request a role in the tour, which is being co-sponsored by World Vision, a nonprofit Christian humanitarian organization committed to serving God by working with the poor and oppressed. True Love Waits, sponsored by the Sunday School Board, is an international campaign designed to challenge teenagers and college students to remain sexually abstinent until marriage.
“There has never been a better time to carry the abstinence message to kids than now,” Whatley said. “Clay and Jaci are committed to sharing the True Love Waits message both during the concert and in their everyday lives.”
Clay, who has been married seven years and has one child and another on the way, waited until marriage before sexual intercourse, and Jaci, who is single, has promised God to remain sexually abstinent until marriage.
