E-mail news service to offer Southern Seminary news & info

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP)–It is now easier than ever to stay informed about Southern Baptist Theological Seminary news and events.

The seminary’s office of public relations has launched the Southern Seminary News Service, a free service that will allow subscribers to receive seminary press releases through their e-mail. Subscribers also will receive periodic updates on other news and campus events. In the past, many of these releases were available only on the seminary’s website. It is the first such e-mail news service offered by a Southern Baptist Convention seminary.

James A. Smith Sr., the seminary’s director of public relations, encouraged all Southern Baptists to sign up.

“We are delighted to offer this service to alumni and friends of Southern Seminary and other Southern Baptists,” Smith said. “God is blessing Southern Seminary in so many ways and we want to get the word out in a timely fashion. This e-mail news service allows us to provide more information about the seminary to our alumni and friends.”

The service is available by signing up online at www.sbts.edu/news.html. Subscribers will be asked to enter their e-mail address, after which they will receive a message of verification in their e-mail account. The subscriber then must respond to the verification message to activate the seminary news service. This is done to prevent unwanted subscriptions.

The news service is the latest addition to the seminary’s website. Last year the website began to offer streaming audio of chapel speakers. News stories and releases will continue to be posted on the website.

“Whether it’s stories about chapel speakers, seminary publications, new academic programs or features about faculty and students, we will provide helpful information about Southern Baptists’ flagship school,” Smith said. “I believe this free news service will be a helpful resource for all Southern Baptists.”
