Eddie Pate named director of GGBTS’ Southern Calif. Campus

MILL VALLEY, Calif. (BP)–Edsel D. (Eddie) Pate Jr. has been named director of the Southern California Campus of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.

Seminary trustees approved the appointment during their April 12 meeting at the Northern California Campus in Mill Valley upon the recommendation of President Jeff Iorg and the trustees’ personnel committee.

“Dr. Pate is a leader. He has been a strong pastor in California and an outstanding international missionary,” Iorg said. “He is returning home to prepare a new generation of Southern California leaders to accelerate the fulfillment of the Great Commission. I am delighted to have him on the Golden Gate team.”

Pate has been associate professor of missions at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Va., since July 2004. Previously he was responsible for Southern Baptist mission work in several countries in the Middle East and North Africa with the International Mission Board.

Pate was senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Barstow, Calif., from 1986-92 and senior pastor for North Temple Baptist Church in Dallas from 1982-86. He holds a bachelor of arts degree from California Baptist College in Riverside and master of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

He has served as vice chairman of the California Southern Baptist Convention’s executive board and been involved in the High Desert Baptist Association of California and the Dallas Baptist Association.

Pate, a native of Memphis, Tenn., and his wife, Myria, have four sons, Eddie, Benjamin, Samuel and Jonathan, age 7 to 19.

Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary is a Cooperative Program ministry of the Southern Baptist Convention and operates five campuses, in Northern California, Southern California, the Pacific Northwest, Arizona and Colorado.
