Ellsworth succeeds Miller as Southern’s news director

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP)–Tim Ellsworth has been named director of news and information at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He will begin at the Louisville, Ky., school Aug. 2. Ellsworth replaces Norman Miller who assumed duties as communications coordinator for the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia on June 7.
Ellsworth, director of communications for the Illinois Baptist State Association and acting editor of the Illinois Baptist, has served on the ISBA staff in various roles since May 1996.
“I’m delighted that Tim has felt God’s leading to Southern Seminary,” said James A. Smith Sr., Southern’s director of public relations. “In a short time, Tim has proven himself as a capable Baptist communicator who is widely respected by his peers in the field. It’s also clear that Tim’s heart beats with the mission and purpose of Southern Seminary. We are blessed to have him join our team.”
Ellsworth, 25, is a native of Benton, Ill. He holds the bachelor of arts degree from Union University in Jackson, Tenn.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with Illinois Baptists over the past three years,” Ellsworth said. “I’ve been an Illinois Baptist most of my life, so the people of this state are special to me. But, it’s time to move on. There are a lot of good things happening at Southern Seminary, and I’m looking forward to serving Southern Baptists in my role there.”
Miller, meanwhile, as communications coordinator for the two-year-old Virginia convention, said he looks forward to working in behalf of the SBCV, which he described as “theologically conservative, evangelistically fervent and ministerially compassionate.”
The SBCV’s executive committee voted to hire Miller in its May 11 meeting.
Prior to working at Southern Seminary, Miller was a staff writer for The Commission magazine of the SBC International Mission Board. Miller also served as writer and editor in the pubic relations office of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.N., and held similar duties at Criswell College in Dallas.
