Endowment gift honors GGBTS president

SAN FRANCISCO (BP)–Leaders of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary have announced the establishment one of the school’s largest endowments, the Ruth and Mary Glenelle Prock Presidential Endowment, given by the Glen Prock family of Albany, CA.

The unrestricted endowment is named for a mother and daughter who served as missionaries to the deaf community in California for more than 50 years.

Ruth Prock, a 1959 alumnae of Golden Gate’s Christian education program and a retired missionary with the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board, died this summer. Her husband, Glen, who also was a student at Golden Gate, died in 1990.

Their surviving daughter, Mary Glenelle, who is deaf, announced the gift alongside seminary officials during an Oct. 9 banquet honoring William and Jo Ann Crews’ 15th anniversary of service at Golden Gate, where he was elected president in 1986.

The banquet was held in conjunction with the seminary’s semi-annual board of trustees meeting at the Mill Valley, Calif., campus near San Francisco.

“After a career with the Bank of America, Mary Glenelle continued as a leader among the deaf members of her church in Albany,” said Tom Jones, vice president for institutional advancement. “Today, she is a strong and avid supporter of the ministry of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. She wanted this endowment to be given in recognition of Dr. and Mrs. Crews’ service and commitment to Golden Gate, an institution the Prock family has loved for so many years.”

Jones told Crews the endowment was given “to enable you and future presidents to support and enhance the mission and purpose” of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.

“Though Ruth and Glen are both missed, their memory will now live on through their immense generosity that will continue to bless so many,” added Jones.

Seminary officials indicated the endowment was one of the largest the school has ever received, but at the donor’s request they did not publicly release the amount.
