Evangelist Junior Hill OK after scare

[1]

MOBILE, Ala. (BP)–Evangelist Junior Hill fell ill and was unable to complete his sermon at the Alabama Baptist State Convention’s annual meeting Nov. 12, although a check-up at the local hospital ruled out any heart problems and he was allowed to return home.

The popular preacher was at the end of his sermon at Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Mobile when he became weak. Messengers in attendance no doubt feared for his health.

“He held his hand to his head and said, ‘I’m going to have to stop now. I don’t feel so well.’ And he had to be helped away to sit down,” said Jennifer Davis Rash, managing editor of The Alabama Baptist newspaper.

Hill then was taken to a hospital. Hill himself thought the episode could have been blamed on exhaustion, being hot and possible exposure to a virus the day before, Rash said. He had preached in Florida the previous day where he was in the presence of someone with a virus.

Hill, who has been in the ministry more than 50 years, is based in Hartselle, Ala. Just last year he published his autobiography, “They Call Him Junior.”
