[1]GREENSBORO, N.C. (BP)–Evangelist Keith Fordham of Fayetteville, Ga., will be nominated for first vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention, a fellow evangelist has announced.
“Dr. Fordham is a dynamic and deeply spiritual evangelist who has been used mightily of God to impact our convention through his preaching and leadership,” said evangelist Bill Britt of Gallatin, Tenn. “Tens of thousands have been born again under the preaching of this anointed evangelist.”
Fordham, a fulltime evangelist for more than 33 years, was the 2004-05 president of the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists; Britt is the current COSBE president.
Fordham also has served as COSBE’s vice president and three terms as president of the Conference of Georgia Baptist Evangelists. He currently is chairman of COSBE’s “Low to No” baptism committee to schedule evangelists in churches willing to make an all-out effort to reach the lost.
Fordham is a member of Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
Britt noted in a news release, “Each year at the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention there is a discussion concerning the lack of baptisms. Doesn’t it make sense to include a God-called, New Testament evangelist to help lead our convention in our main task, winning souls to Jesus? Keith Fordham is a proven evangelist that will assist our SBC president in carrying out the Great Commission. He possesses the ability to unite pastors, evangelists and denominational leaders in this great task. It is without reservation that I will place Keith’s name in nomination as first vice president.”
[2]Fordham stated in the news release, “Of all the denominations on earth, none has a greater opportunity of fulfilling the Great Commission than Southern Baptists. It is in our grasp. We must all work together in the ‘unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace’ (Ephesians 4:3). Let Southern Baptists join Jesus in an all-out effort to seek and save those who are lost.”
Fordham has led more than 1,300 revivals, traveling across the United States and Canada and to India. Prior to entering fulltime evangelism, Fordham served in various staff positions at churches in Georgia and Mississippi. He is a graduate of Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., and holds an M.Div. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctor of ministry degree from Immanuel Theological Seminary in Peachtree City, Ga. He currently is an adjunct evangelism instructor at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo.
Information for the most recent year from Southern Baptists’ Annual Church Profile survey, 2005, for Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church lists 34 baptisms and primary worship service attendance of 870. The church gave $157,813, or 10 percent, through the Cooperative Program from total undesignated receipts of $1,570,882. According to the ACP, the church’s total mission expenditures were $387,222, including $48,265 for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions and $26,994 for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions.
