ATLANTA (BP)–In a day of confusing “pressures” and rapidly changing circumstances, the Scriptures are crucial for every Christian, especially in today’s marketplaces. The writer of Hebrews gives us both a warning and a timely encouragement:
“… Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful….” (Hebrews 10:23).
We have a valid and needed “confession of our hope” that those around us in the world too often do not have. We have hope in the midst of often-frightening events and especially negative news and commentaries on the news. It can leave many worried and downcast, but a Christian has genuine hope — because our God is faithful.
With all the changing circumstances and a sense of helplessness that we are unable to handle them, loneliness can set in. To remember — and experience — God’s faithfulness can bring peace. But even more significant is the hope that comes with God’s faithfulness and, therefore, the assurance that He is going to “work all things together for good for those who love Him and are the called according to His purposes….” (Romans 8:28, ff).
Each person needs to constantly remember all the promises of God, and His promise to fulfill every one of them (2 Corinthians 1:20). This gives a person real and unshakable hope.
And this hope must be shared with others — at home and in the workplaces of our nation and in the communities where we live. We must not waver or be unstable in the hope we have within us, so our witness to God’s faithfulness will be believed and received by others.
Our world needs the hope we have in God’s faithfulness!
