ALEXANDRIA, La. (BP) — Just when you thought American pop culture could not sink any lower comes the introduction of the “Hook-Up Truck,” a mobile hotel room on wheels designed to allow people to engage in illicit relationships while the vehicle is parked on the street.
Described on its website as “a modern dating solution for safe sex adventuring,” the Hook-Up Truck is set to take to the streets of California’s Bay Area for the first time on the May 2-3 weekend.
Edward Gibbon, author of the classic work “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire,” observed that one of the marks that contributed to Rome’s ultimate demise was “obsession with sex and perversions of sex.” He also described the Roman declension as a place where “bizarreness masqueraded as creativity.”
Both of Gibbon’s assessments apply to the Hook-Up Truck.
The apostle Paul wrote the following to Christians living in the Roman province of Galatia: “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.”
America has long been sowing seeds of sexual promiscuity and perversion. The Hook-Up Truck is simply symptomatic of the current casual attitude toward sex in the United States.
A time for reaping is on the horizon, some believe it has already begun, and the harvest will be as debauched as it is disobedient to God’s righteous standards.
