FIRST-PERSON: To my Southern Baptist brothers & sisters

[1]

SAN DIEGO (BP)–As current events raise the specter of war in our world, it is essential for us as Christians to pray for our leaders and our military forces throughout the world. We must take to heart the apostle Paul’s admonition to “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) for God’s guidance in this troubling time for our country and our world.

I chose to serve our country in the United States Marine Corps out of gratitude for the freedoms I enjoy in this country. The defense of freedom and the eradication of global terrorism is a just cause and worthy of our support as Christians.

I call Southern Baptists to faithfulness and fearless witness as you seek to advance God’s Kingdom and share his love with all people. We must not allow acts of terror to stifle our global witness for Christ.

Please pray daily for God’s protective hand on our troops and all innocent bystanders in this global crisis. I personally covet your prayers as I daily seek God’s will and guidance. Fulfilling my calling as a military officer and helicopter pilot provides me with unique opportunities for Christian witness.

Sincerely,

Capt. Erin S. Benjamin, USMC
