Fla. pastor to be nominated for SBC’s 2nd vice president


RINGGOLD, Ga. (BP)–Paul Russell, pastor of a multiethnic congregation in Sebring, Fla., will be nominated for second vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention, R. Zack Zbinden, pastor of Briarwood Baptist Church, Ringgold, Ga., has announced.

Russell has been pastor of Sebring’s Sunridge Baptist Church the past five years. Since 1995 the church has received 185 new members and baptized 53. The church has a membership of 207 and an average Sunday school attendance of 117.

“It is not a large church, but it represents the vast majority of congregations that make up the Southern Baptist Convention,” Zbinden said.

Russell is a native of Georgia and a graduate of Georgia Tech. He earned his M.Div. from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tenn. and was ordained to the ministry by Bellevue Baptist Church.

Russell has pastored churches in Mississippi and Florida.

Russell will be nominated at the SBC’s June 13-14 annual meeting at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.
