WASHINGTON (BP)–The SBC’s Richard Land will be featured as the “Power Player of the Week” during “Fox News Sunday” on May 6. Chris Wallace anchors the weekly hour-long news and commentary program.

Land, president of the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, is expected to discuss the 2008 presidential election as well as his latest book, “The Divided States of America? What liberals and conservatives are missing in the God-and-country shouting match!”

The special segment, which appears near the close of the Fox News Sunday show, is designed to spotlight “people who make Washington work behind the scenes,” a network spokesman said.

The late Jack Valenti, former head of the Motion Picture Association of America and a senior official in President Lyndon Johnson’s administration, was the program’s first “power player” on Dec. 7, 2003. Fox re-aired the original Valenti segment last Sunday, April 29, after the 85-year-old Valenti died days earlier from complications of a stroke.

Recent guests featured in the Fox News Power Player segment include Nancy Brinker, founder of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, well known for its Komen Race for the Cure events; Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin; and Sir Richard Branson, the British entrepreneur who founded Virgin Atlantic Airways and the Virgin Records music label, among other Virgin-labeled businesses. Branson was recognized for his work with YouthAIDS.
