Franklin Ave. church to host African American Fellowship


NEW ORLEANS (BP)–New Orleans’ Franklin Avenue Baptist Church will host the June 10 worship fellowship of the African American Fellowship of the Southern Baptist Convention.

A.L. Sutton Jr., pastor of Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, Birmingham, Ala., will preach at the 5 p.m. service, which also will feature music by Franklin Avenue Baptist Church’s choir.

On Monday, June 11, the fellowship’s annual pastor’s meeting will begin at 4 p.m., followed by a fellowship dinner at 6 p.m., both at La Madeleine’s Salon de Bon Fete in New Orleans.

The dinner’s featured speaker will be Joseph Lyles, pastor of Fort Foote Baptist Church, Fort Washington, Md., who is concluding his second one-year term as fellowship president. The first vice president, George McCalep Jr., pastor of Greenforest Community Baptist Church in Atlanta, will be the fellowship’s new president.

More than 2,100 African American congregations and church-type missions are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
