Gary Myers joins NOBTS staff as public relations director

NEW ORLEANS (BP)–Gary Myers, freelance writer and former interim communications director at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, has been named director of public relations at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Charles Harvey, NOBTS’ vice president for development, has announced. He will replace Shannon Baker, who will join her husband in planting a church in Baltimore, with the North American Mission Board.

Myers, 33, will be responsible for the seminary’s public relations efforts; coordinating the production of publications, including the weekly Gatekeeper and the quarterly alumni magazines; writing news releases; and continuing the development of the seminary’s strategic branding communications plan.

Myers has worked closely with the seminary’s public relations office during the past year as a freelance writer. Previously, he served as interim director of communications and communications assistant at Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. He earlier led the Baptist Campus Ministry programs at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University and worked at The Meridian (Miss.) Star as a sportswriter, news editor and graphics editor.

Myers holds a bachelor of arts degree in communication with concentrations in advertising and public relations from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Okla. He is currently working toward a master of divinity degree at NOBTS.

He and his wife, Kimberly, have one son, Jonathan, 2. They are members of Community Fellowship of First Baptist Church in Gulfport, Miss., where they serve as community group leaders.
